Gotcha, Part 2

After we finished at the orphanage, we went straight to the Civil Affairs office to complete the paperwork for the adoption.

I had to write a statement as to why I wanted to adopt Claire and then had to sign my name to about ten million (only a slight exaggeration!) documents, most of which were in Chinese.

Since Claire is 10 years old, she had to consent to the adoption.   She had to write a statement to that effect and then sign her name.   Being that she has had no official education, writing this statement proved very difficult for her.   However, she patiently copied the Chinese characters and then signed her name perfectly.

We sealed everything with red ink and our fingerprints to make it official!

After the civil affairs office, our driver took us back to the hotel and we walked down the street to a nearby Chinese restaurant.  We had a delicious lunch for $20 for all six of us!

After resting at the hotel for a while, we headed out to see Snack Street.  Unfortunately,  it was so cold that no one was really willing to explore the interesting snacks.

We found Toys 'R Us, which was fun for the kids and warm!!

A little of this incredibly busy store went a long way and we soon knew it was time to head home.

So thankful for a great first day with our newest family member!!

  2. You will have so much to tell when you get home. We are eager to hear all the stories. Will, Josh, Abby, and Claire will no doubt write some great ones!
